Session 10: Surgical Nursing

The nurse who works in a surgery known as surgical nurses. They supporting surgeons and doctors in completing both routine and complex surgical procedures. All surgical nurses work within the hospital setting, either in surgical wards and operating rooms, trauma and emergency care centers or recovery rooms and intensive care units. They are expected to work on both elective and life-saving procedures each day. This may involve working with a team including surgeons, anesthetists, ODPs theatre support workers, and porters.
The daily work of a surgical nurse involves:
- Preoperative Phase
- Anesthetic Phase
- Surgical Phase
- Recovery Phase
- Scrub or circulate?
- The organization is a must
- Teamwork is crucial
- There’s a lot to learn – but also a lot of places you can go
- It’s not the easiest specialty to break into, but it’s not impossible
